Barveenok Ukrainian Dancers inducted into the P.A. Arts Hall of Fame

The Prince Albert Barveenok Ukrainian Dancers are the newest inductees in the Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame.

The non-profit organization and dance troupe has been performing in the city for over four decades. Cara Stelmaschuk with the Prince Albert Arts Board told paNOW honouring the group as the 2020 Hall of Fame inductee was a natural choice.

Aside from their enormously popular annual Ukrainian Dance Festival which draws performers and spectators from around Western Canada, the club regularly participates in other community events including the P.A. Exhibition Parade, Raider Games and Tapestrama. They also put on shows at care homes around the city.

“They perform in so many places,” Stelmaschuk said. “If they can entertain somebody they’ll be there to do it.”

Stelmaschuk explained the 2020 Induction Gala has been postponed due to COVID-19. Prince Albert Barveenok will be recognized along with 2021 inductees at an event set for September 2021.

“Hopefully by next September we can have everyone on that stage for dinner and presentations and videos to gather and celebrate arts and culture in Prince Albert,” she said.
