Prince Albert’s Brooke Hobson will trade in letters for next year with the Northeastern Huskies.

Hobson will captain the Boston-based Huskies in her fourth year with the club, the team announced on Twitter on Wednesday.

“I’m honored to be trusted to lead this incredible group of girls that we have. Knowing I have the respect of my teammates is such a great feeling it’s hard to even describe,” Hobson said in a statement. “From my freshman season we’ve had great leaders that I’ve always looked up to and learned from, and I’m looking to keep developing this great culture that’s been created. As captain I can confidently say that I will do everything I can to help our team reach our full potential. That means not only on the ice, but off the ice, and not only at the rink, but outside the rink as well.”

Hobson isn’t the first Prince Albert product to be named as a Northeastern captain. Josh Manson held that honour on the Huskies men’s side, as he captained the team in his third and final season in Northeastern back in 2013-14. Manson started his professional career the following year with the Anaheim Ducks.

The women’s Huskies were dominant throughout the season, posting a 32-4-2 record. They capped off the year by beating University of Connecticut Huskies 9-1 to win the Hockey East conference. They were going to head into the NCAA national title as the third-ranked team in the nation, but that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a third-year assistant captain, Hobson had six goals and 15 points in 30 games for the Huskies.

Before that, Hobson played in 128 games for the Bears over five full seasons, ranking seventh all team in games played in the Saskatchewan Under-18 AAA Hockey League.
