The Prince Albert Raiders’ student-athlete award is going to be split this year by a pair of rookie blue liners.

Landon Kosior and Nolan Allan were both presented with the Belle Merrell and Calla Grasley Award for the Scholastic Players of the Year — the team announced on Wednesday.

Both Kosior and Allan said they were honoured to receive the award and gave a special shoutout for those who helped them along the way.

“Playing hockey in the WHL and keeping up with your schooling can be tough at times, but I’m lucky I had teachers and teammates who helped support me and push me to keep up with my schoolwork during the busy schedule. I’m very thankful for that,” Kosior said in a team-issued video.

Kosior also added a special thanks to Raiders’ education advisor Geraldine Arpin for organizing study halls and making sure Kosior had everything he needed.

Allan made sure to thank all his teachers for their flexibility.

“Keeping up with the classroom during the season can be very difficult, but our teachers are very understanding and put us in the best position possible to succeed — whether it be helping us after hours or even over the phone,” Allan said in the video.

Jakob Brook won last year’s award for the Raiders. Since this year’s deadline trade to the Regina Pats, Brook also won their Scholastic Player of the Year award and was named the WHL Eastern Conference Scholastic Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
