Cosmo Lodge set to become destination restaurant

Mar 2, 2020 | 11:38 AM

The Cosmopolitan Lodge at Little Red River Park could take its first steps towards becoming a destination attraction this year.

Shananigan’s Bistro is being recommended by city staff as the preferred bidder to take over operations. It would be a licensed establishment.

A suggested five-year deal would see taxpayers pay the company almost $290,000 over that term, with the city making some money back from a percentage of sales in the fifth year.

Three other companies bid on the tender including the P.A. Métis Women’s Association (PAMWA) which has had the contract to operate the lodge for over 14 years. The Shananigan’s bid was deemed to best meet various criteria including delivering a vision for the location, providing a customer experience and their pricing structure was less than the others.

The new contract would run May 1, 2020 through April 30, 2026.

City council will debate the idea at this afternoon’s executive meeting.
