Woman taken to hospital after fall on ski trail

Parkland Ambulance went off-road this weekend.

Paramedics responded to Little Red River Park Saturday after a woman fell on the ski trails. Paramedic Sherri Morrison explained the terrain required a different piece of equipment to be called into service.

“Initially the ambulance went out and then we were called with our rover and the [mobile response unit], that she was about a kilometer and half down the trail, which was unaccessible by vehicle,” she said.

Morrison said the woman was unable to get up. She was transported to hospital in good condition and was later released.

Morrison said the rescue effort was aided by several volunteers associated with the weekend triathlon event.

She added fellow skiers should stay mindful of their location and to bring a phone should they end up injured.

“Know where you are, about how far from like say a parking lot,” she said.

Parkland’s mobile response unit can switch out from tracks to wheels depending on the weather or terrain.

“With our area, with all of the quading and snow mobiles and the lakes and so many trails in so many different areas, it has come in quite handy,” Morrison said.
