P.A. Winter Festival Family Sliding Day

Feb 17, 2020 | 5:07 PM

Prince Albert residents were out and about on Monday for Family Day festivities.

The Prince Albert Winter Festival’s Family Sliding Day at Little Red River Park gave them an opportunity to spend some quality time together outdoors.

Bev Erickson, president of the Prince Albert Winter Festival, said they introduced Family Sliding Day as part of the festival a couple of years ago.

“Every year we learn a little bit more,” she said. “Save-On-Foods has come on board and they supply all the hot dogs and hot chocolate for free.”

The Community Alcohol Strategy Steering Committee (CASSC) partnered up with the festival to provide crazy carpets for free as well.

“We couldn’t do any of these events without the community support,” she said.

Kids of all ages were sliding down the slopes on Monday and horse drawn sleigh rides were also available. The sleigh rides were done by Rivers North Ranch.

“We’ve actually had a lot of adults that have never been on a sleigh ride either so they’ve enjoyed that as well,” Erickson said.

Erickson said since introducing the event it seems as though they get more people every year.

“Of course the weather has a pretty big bearing on the turnout to any outdoor event but we are from Saskatchewan so you just dress warmer and come join in the fun anyway,” she said. “I’m happy with it. We’d always like to have a lot more but I know there’s a lot going on in Prince Albert.”

Prince Albert Winter Festival activities continue until Feb. 23.
