The Prince Albert Historical Society is putting on a special event.

On Thursday the society will host a Christmas themed downtown walking tour. The walk will take people around the area where they will have the chance to learn about the history of the area while getting the chance to visit some of the shops.

Historical Society Board member and volunteer Fred Payton, who along with Coun. Terra Lennox-Zepp will be leading the tour, said he was happy businesses in the area showed an interest in taking part.

“We do most of our walking tours in the spring, summer and fall when the weathers a little nicer, we don’t always stop in the shops, we tend to stop in the restaurants and cafes,” he said.

There is no charge for people to take part in the tour. But donations will be accepted with all the money going towards rebuilding the church and blockhouse.

Payton explained some of the shops along the tour are significant to the city’s history. He added being able to bring people to the area and talk about its importance is something he feels strongly about.

“For me as a historian, it’s great to be able to take people out and show them what we have in downtown Prince Albert,” he said.

Lennox-Zepp said the Christmas walking tour will give people the chance to learn about the interesting history of the area.

“It’s quite fascinating,” she said.

Besides learning and being able to see what some downtown shops have available, Lennox-Zepp added there will also be drinks, snacks and music along the way. She said it is also an exciting time for the area as there are a number of new shops which have opened up.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn something, but also have some fun,” she said.
