Santa Claus welcomes parade goers

The snowfall didn’t stop hundreds of people from welcoming Santa Clause to town.

The annual Santa Claus parade kicked off at 11 a.m. Saturday and featured around 30 different floats from local businesses and other organizations.

Elwin Bear and Marcy Vizina brought their two grandchildren to help welcome Santa. Bear said it was a good day for the event with light snowfall and temperatures steady near -9 C.

“This is perfect weather to tell you the truth,” he said.

Not only was it Vizina’s first year taking her grandchildren to the parade, it was also her first time attending the annual event.

“Just loving the weather, I like the snow, looking forward to Christmas,” she said.

The procession started with the Prince Albert Police Service and the local fire department. This year’s parade got good reviews from some of those in attendance. Nicole Knecht and her daughter were on hand for the second year. Knecht felt this year’s parade had lots to offer.

“It was really good. There was lots of variety of different businesses and lots of fun for the kids,” she said.

Nathan Nicholas said the falling snow helped make for a great atmosphere. Nicholas, who along with his family regularly attend the parade agreed this year’s event had lots going for it.

“Great parade, beautiful atmosphere, we couldn’t ask for better weather today,” he said.

Santa will spend the next few weeks making appearances at the Gateway Mall to take photos with children and hear Christmas gift wishes.
