Legion holds craft sale

Remembrance Day may be over, but local veterans still need the public’s support.

On Saturday the Royal Canadian Legion held a craft sale to raise money for their building fund.

“We have various things that need repair like our furnace system right now …and it’s going to be $20,000 I believe,” Deanne Riese, vice president of the Legion, said. “We might replace it instead because the repair is going to cost just about as much as replacing it.”

She added the craft sale wouldn’t produce nearly as much money as they need but every little bit helped.

“What we do though is we raise money for the veterans and so we need to keep the building going so we can have the ability to raise money for veterans,” Riese said.

There were around 10 vendors at the craft sale selling a variety of items such as baked goods, Christmas ornaments, decorations, and plenty of homemade crafts.

Prince Albert resident Leah Taylor was selling her custom gifts such as potholders, kitchen conversion cutting boards, Christmas bulbs, and Christmas signs.

“I just basically cut vinyl and I can put it on anything,” she said. “On T-shirts, baby onesies, anything really.”

She said all her work is done from home and she started for fun because she had spare time now her children are more independent.

“I needed something kind of to pass the time especially after they go to bed,” she added. “Just doing it for fun and then people started asking me if they can order things.”
