UPDATE: A release from the Prince Albert Police Service says further investigation determined there was no public safety threat made to Carlton High School.

No charges will be laid in the incident and the file is concluded. Principal Jeff Court told paNOW he was proud of the way staff, students, and the community came together during a difficult situation.

“I’m happy with the way everything turned out for sure and you know unfortunately we are in a day and time where these types of situations do occur and we need to respond in the best way possible,” he said.

There is a noticeable police presence outside Carlton High School today, following word of a potential threat made against the school.

Police have confirmed threats were made Friday morning via social media and one male youth has been taken into custody. The specific details of what the threat entailed have not been disclosed but paNOW has obtained copies of two emails issued to parents. The first email was sent out shortly after 8 a.m.

“We have been made aware of a potential threat to our school this morning. We are working with the P.A. Police Service in regards to the threat and will be taking extra safety and security measures this morning and in the coming days,” Principal Jeff Court stated.

A short time later a second email was issued, indicating the matter had been resolved but explained there would be a heightened police presence around the school for the remainder of the day, and all regularly scheduled school operations and programs were continuing as normal.

“We love our school and students dearly and on tough days like today we are reminded of what a great community we have, pulling together to respond to a challenging situation,” Court said.

As an added precaution all exit doors at the school will be locked for the reminder of the day, with the exception of the front door. Police have confirmed they are continuing to investigate.
