Peterson’s pair lifts Bears over Sharks

Nov 15, 2019 | 9:11 PM

Debden’s Rhea Peterson scored twice as the Prince Albert Northern Bears continued their hot start to the season, beating the Battlefords Sharks 3-0 on Friday at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Bears have just one loss in their first seven games of the season, winning four in regulation and two in overtime. The Sharks fell to 4-6 on the season.

After a scoreless first period, Peterson kicked the game off with a pair of goals in about a three minute span to lead the Bears to victory. Kailey Ledoux added another goal in the third period. She also had an assist in the game.

The Bears started to get a chippy late in the game. Defender Paige Dawson took a four-minute head contact penalty, quickly followed up by Jasper Desmarais getting dinged with a checking from behind penalty. That got Desmarais ejected from the game, and gave the Sharks a full two-minutes of 5-on-3.

The Bears were able to kill off both penalties and Bears goaltender Janae Neufeld was able to keep her shutout. Neufeldt made 28 saves for her second shutout in four appearances this year. Neufeldt has barely let in a goal this year. In her four appearances, she’s made 94 saves on 96 shots and has a 3-0 record.

The Bears and Sharks will have a rematch on Saturday at the Art Hauser Centre. The start for that game has been changed to 3 p.m.
