Buckland Fire and Rescue respond to grain dryer fire

Nov 12, 2019 | 11:39 AM

A quick and effective reaction from a local fire station helped minimize the negative effects of an agriculture-related call.

Buckland Fire and Rescue responded with multiple trucks and 11 firefighters to a grain-dryer fire north of Henribourg, near the community of Spruce Home at 9 a.m. Sunday. After two hours on scene, canola smoldering inside the dryer was safely emptied out.

“The boys did an excellent job getting it out,” Buckland Fire Chief Garry Schrader said. “We used a lot of foam. It was done very well and very safely.”

He explained it took them two hours in total to take care of the fire.

Schrader noted in his experience, this is typically the time of year grain dryer fires occur as producers are busy preparing their grain for market.

He capped it off by wishing farmers a safe wrap-up to the harvest season.

“Just be careful and if there any problems give us a call and we’ll come take a look at it,” Schrader advised.
