Evergreen Artisan Market showcases local talent

Nov 3, 2019 | 11:57 AM

The people of Prince Albert had the opportunity to support local artisans at the Evergreen Artisan Market on Nov. 1 and 2.

Presented by the Prince Albert Council for the Arts at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre, there were 40 different artisan vendors on hand and two music stages to showcase talent.

Lorraine Prokop, a member of the Prince Albert Council for the Arts, said the event is meant to showcase local talent but also it is a fundraiser for the council.

“It’s great for exposure, it allows young people to show off some talents, there are people who we’ve had before and people who we haven’t,” she said. “It’s opening up a lot of doors to make sure everyone gets revealed, acknowledged and all that. We are very grateful to be able to have this beautiful space in Prince Albert.”

The funds raised will be used to support their open art studio and a variety of other things.

All sorts of artisanal skills were on show including woodwork, books, knitting, and bath bombs to name a few.

One of the vendors, Chris Dansereau, brought work from the Prince Albert Woodturner’s Guild.

“We’ve been running for quite a few years now so it’s a collaboration of multiple talents of people and we just get together and have fun and turn pieces,” he said.

They were selling many different handmade items including bowls, hollow vessels, spatulas, and a lot of art pieces. Wood species included birch, maple, and cotton wood bark

He said depending on how complicated, detailed and decorative the piece it can take some time to complete.

“We are also trying to promote our group trying to get more interest and get people out,” he said. “[We’re] trying to get the younger generation to come and start working with their hands and learning more about the craft of woodworking.”
