The Rose Garden Hospice received a significant donation Friday afternoon.

Local dentist Dr. Jerry Janzen and his wife Carol Janzen donated $25,000 to the Rose Garden Hospice.

“I think it’s important to give back to the community. I’ve spent most of my life here working serving the public and it’s important to give back,” Janzen told paNOW. “Secondly if we look at our resources as a hospital, we’re eating up a lot of dollars in places we don’t need to eat them up.”

According to their website, the Rose Garden Hospice is a non-for-profit organization that will provide care, both physical and mental, to the terminally ill.

“If we can treat people better in a better environment in a hospice situation in end of care life, I think that’s a good way to do it,” he said.

Janzen said his mother passed away this spring and fortunately didn’t need a lot of hospital type care.

“There were other people around her that were not in a similar situation. Had it gone on longer it would have been a nice environment for family when they come down to visit in a better environment than the hospital,” Janzen said.

Marina Mitchell, who is on the board of the Rose Garden Hospice said this donation helps them get to their goal.

“It shows that this is a really community-driven initiative. It’s a community project and we love to see that the community businesses and members are you know we have their support,” she said. “It’s going to be a special place for Prince Albert.”
