Saskatchewan’s Constant Reminder heading to Toronto

After eight years of performing and recording, the boys from Constant Reminder are setting their sights on new opportunity.

The band of brothers from James Smith Cree Nation are heading to Toronto next week where they have been invited to record a demo.

Lead singer Dantin Constant said although each of them began playing different times, they have been playing as a band for the past eight years. He said they have actually had the opportunity to travel all across Canada.

“Last year we went to Quebec, also Manitoba and Alberta and we even had the privilege to perform and share the stage with the Kentucky Headhunters for a few days of touring,” Dantin said.

Dantin began playing when he was about nine years old with some inspiration from his father who would go away for work.

“He would always have these reminders of our people back home,” Dantin said. “Every time he would come back we would progress even more.”

Six months after Dantin picked up a guitar, his brother Seth wanted to join in and the two began to jam together. A few years later, the boys youngest brother, Rene started drumming at the age of eight. The bass player Ethan Constant then joined at the age of 14.

“When Ethan Constant joined, the whole group sounded more complete and that is what we base our anniversary date on,” Dantin said.

The band calls Canada Day, July 1, their band anniversary date since that’s when the four of them officially began playing together. They have now been playing as many shows as possible for the past eight years.

A big thing for the band is their love and passion for music which they have always had but has evidently grown over their years of performing.

“It’s very hard to describe the group but we are pretty old fashioned with our sound,” Dantin said. “We are influenced by the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. That’s where our sound comes from is the old classics.”

Dantin said that sticking to what they love and “striving” all these years is where they can give credit to this new opportunity ahead of them. Iguana Studios in Toronto has invited Constant Reminder to record with them.

“They have worked with Aerosmith, Mick Jagger from the Rolling Stones, Sum 41 and they just finished recording with Rush,” Dantin said.

“We kind of got pretty lucky there with our biggest influences,” Dantin said. “My brothers and I are very excited and looking forward to the future of what may be or what could happen.”

The four boys will leave for Toronto on Nov. 6 and will be in studio recording from Nov. 7 to 10.

The boys will be busy when they return from Toronto with a few gigs scheduled already including a wedding in Prince Albert, and a birthday bash in The Pas, Manitoba. They can also be found on a regular basis putting on workshops and making appearances at schools as well.

“We are just going to keep going because we have a lot of faith. Constant Reminder is about our home first, our loved ones first and our family first,” Dantin said. “Once we begin to fix home first, we all begin to prosper.”

Constant Reminder has numerous albums out and those can be found on Spotify and iTunes.
