Mintos snap losing streak with key win, tied for first in SMAAAHL
The Prince Albert Mintos snapped a three-game losing streak on Sunday, with a 4-2 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors on the road in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action.
The Mintos started off the year with a perfect 8-0 record, but saw a string of three defeats come their way, starting on Oct. 17 in a 4-1 loss to the Beardy’s Blackhawks. The Mintos then were doubled up 2-1 by the Warriors on Oct. 19 at the Art Hauser Centre. On Saturday, the Mintos losing streak to three games with a 3-2 defeat to the Notre Dame Hounds, before the streak breaker on Sunday.
Mintos rookie Austin McLean led the Mintos with a pair of goals in Sunday’s win. Goaltender Joel Favreau made 37 saves on 39 shots to improve his record to 6-1 on the year. Favreau now has a .947 save percentage, 1.44 goals against average and two shutouts through seven appearances thus far this year.
The Mintos are now tied for first place in the SMAAAHL with a 9-3 record. The Mintos are back on the ice on Nov. 2 with a home game against the Notre Dame Hounds.
