Paramedic among 3 dead in north Sask. crash

UPDATE:

Late Saturday afternoon RCMP released updated information related to the tragic incident Friday.

In a media release, police said the crash involved an ambulance and a truck.

The northbound ambulance had two occupants and the southbound truck had five occupants. The passenger of the northbound vehicle, an adult male, was transported by EMS and was later pronounced deceased. A male youth and female toddler from the southbound truck were transported by EMS and were later pronounced deceased. All of the other occupants were transported by EMS with undetermined injuries.

Road conditions were poor with slush and ice covered sections at the time of the collision. Alcohol is not considered a factor.

A collision on Highway 155 Friday evening has killed three people.

RCMP said the collision happened about 18 kilometres south of Beauval and blocked both north and southbound traffic for several hours.

On Facebook, the Association of Saskatchewan Paramedics said its sources had indicated a Meadow Lake based ambulance was involved in the two-vehicle collision.

“Three fatalities, one paramedic and two people in another vehicle,” the post read.

Beauval is 150 kilometres northeast of Meadow Lake. The Saskatchewan Health Authority posted the following statement on its website:

“The Saskatchewan Health Authority is confirming that one of our ambulances from Meadow Lake EMS was involved in a fatal crash near Beauval, SK while responding to a call late in the afternoon of October 25, 2019, which resulted in the death of one of our paramedics. We are currently working to have community and staff supports in place to provide mental health assistance where needed.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with all patients, individuals and families that have been involved and impacted by this tragic accident. EMS personnel put themselves at risk to serve others, so it is especially heartbreaking when they are affected by such a crash. To protect the privacy of those involved, we will not be sharing any additional information at this time.

We wish to thank all those who assisted those in need at the scene and continue to help and offer support.”
