Over 2,000 students from the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division came through the doors of the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre Wednesday.

“We have over 60 displayers this year and we anticipate seeing about 2,500 students from Prince Albert and surrounding area,” Patricia Bibby, a high school learning and data consultant and committee chair for the event, said.

In terms of overall attendance, Bibby said they expect to see more kids come than last year. She added organizers were happy to see the province’s major post-secondary educational institutions represented along with some major employers. Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Saskatchewan Health Authority and Community Futures for P.A. and District had booths at the fair.

Bibby said she and members of the organizing committee hope to see all the students take advantage of the event.

“I hope they broaden their horizons [and] have a look at everything that’s out there,” she said.

Carlton Comprehensive High School Principal Jeff Court, who was taking in the fair for the first time, said he liked what he saw.

“It’s excellent the opportunities that our kids get for just transitioning into what comes next after high school is done, and they can see themselves in the variety of different booths,” he said.

What the principal especially appreciated was the diversity of displays on hand, which included universities and colleges, but also employers. While he didn’t have specific numbers, Court said the school sees a healthy mix in terms of what students do after graduation. He added students seem to appreciate the opportunity.

“The conversations that I’ve had with our kids are super positive,” he said.
