Kelly Block back in for Carlton Trail/Eagle Creek

The Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek constituency will remain in Conservative hands.

Kelly Block retains the seat after receiving 79.1 per cent of the vote in the federal election, which was 95 per cent of polls reporting.

Finishing second was Jasmine Calix of the New Democrats with 12 per cent of the vote.

Block also surpassed Liberal Rebecca Malo, Dean Gibson of the Green Party, Cody Payant of the People’s Party of Canada, and Independent Glenn Wright.

Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek was formed in 2015 from the former Saskatoon-Humboldt, Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar, and Saskatoon-Wanuskewin ridings.

Block was elected in 2015 with over 26,000 votes, receiving nearly 65 per cent of the vote.

In the previous Saskatoon-Humboldt constituency, Brad Trost of the Conservatives was elected in 2011, 2008, 2006, and 2004.

Jim Pankiw was elected with the Reform Party in 1997 and re-elected in 2000, but lost as an independent candidate to Trost in the 2004 campaign.

Before Pankiw’s election, Georgette Sheridan of the Liberals took the riding by just over 1,600 votes in 1993, while the NDP’s Stan Hovdebo won with over 43 per cent of the vote in 1988.

Otto Lang of the Liberals won in Saskatoon-Humboldt in 1968, 1972, and 1974 before the ridings were changed once again.
