Prince Albert Police Service promotes national campaign

Oct 18, 2019 | 2:56 PM

Over the long weekend the Prince Albert Police Service promoted and enforced safe driving in Operation Impact, which is a national campaign to educate the public on bad driving habits.

According to a media release from the Prince Albert Police Service, some of the bad driving habits include drunk driving, and aggressive driving.

The Combined Traffic Safety Services Unit (CTSS) during the campaign from Oct. 11 to 14 gave out 98 tickets, seized a sawed-off gun, and issued three criminal code charges.

In the four-day Operation Impact campaign they put on a traffic safety blitz, directed roaming patrols, and partnered to organize two stop checks in P.A. with Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

The PAPS Bylaw Unit also participated in Operation Impact where they patrolled parts of the community giving out four tickets and seizing one vehicle.

“Figures cited in Canada’s Road Safety Strategy 2025 report show motor vehicle collisions kill about 2,000 Canadians, seriously injure another 10,000 people and injure about 165,000 people every year,” as stated in the release. “According to the Traffic Injury Research Foundation, more than 90 per cent of road crashes are a result of human error or condition.”
