A Prince Albert group is set to walk to raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking.

The A21 Walk for Freedom is set for Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of human trafficking. Gen Klingenberg, who is taking the lead in organizing the walk in P.A. said the issue is truly global and affects a lot of people.

“There is no borders, it doesn’t matter, there is no age limit,” she said.

People looking to take part in the P.A. walk are encouraged to pre-register. The plan is to meet at Plaza 88 on Central Avenue before heading out to walk through the city. Klingenberg said organizers will pass out literature containing information about warning signs and where people can make a report if they see suspicious activity.

“We educate, that’s what this walk is about,” she said.

The Walk for Freedom is an event that has been taking places across the world for six years. This year’s P.A. walk will be the second one to take place in the city. Last year Klingenberg said they had just over 70 people come out. This year organizers have already surpassed last year’s registration numbers and are expecting well over 100 people to come out.

P.A. is the only city in the province where a walk is planned. Eight other cities in Canada are also set to hold events of their own.

Klingenberg said besides helping to raise awareness about the issue, the walk looks to send those who are being trafficked a message. She said many of these people are vulnerable persons who come from desperate situations and may not feel they have anyone they can trust.

“That’s why we walk in single file, to symbolize each individual is valued and they are important,” she said.
