Raider rookie Nolan Allan will be donning the maple leaf this fall.

The standout defencemen from Davidson, Sask. was among the 66 players selected by Hockey Canada to represent the country at the 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, which will take place Nov. 2 to 9 in Medicine Hat, Alta. and Swift Current, Sask.

The 66 Canadian players will be divided into three teams – Team Canada Black, Team Canada Red, and Team Canada White – and will compete against the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Sweden, and the United States.

Last season the Raiders were represented by both Kaiden Guhle and Ozzy Wiesblatt in the tournament last season, with the duo now finding themselves among the top-ranked Western Hockey League (WHL) players heading into the 2020 NHL Draft.

The 16-year-old Allan has found a steady role on the Raiders blue line this year in his transition to the WHL, chipping in with a goal and an assist in the first nine games.

After being selected third overall by Prince Albert in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft, Allan joined the Saskatoon Blazers of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League [SMAAAHL]. As a first-year midget, the 6-2 defender was named as the top defenceman in the SMAAAHL after putting up 35 points in 39 regular season games. His most impressive work, however, came in the post-season as he led all skaters with 21 points in just 13 games played.

Following a couple pre-tournament games, all three Canadian teams will open the tournament on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Raiders are on the road this week to begin the team’s five-game road trip through the US Division, beginning Saturday night in Everett.
