Cody Fajardo looks on the bright side following truck break-in

Cody Fajardo’s first Thanksgiving in Regina didn’t get off to the best start, but the Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback is trying to find a silver lining.

The 27-year-old is in his first season with the Green and White. On Sunday, his truck was broken into and numerous items were stolen from it.

“I got into my truck and I thought, ‘I didn’t think I left it this messy,’ and things were kind of all over the place,” Fajardo said Monday.

But much like how Fajardo has been reacting to adversity on the football field, he remained positive and hoped for the best after the theft.

“The thing I can hope most about that is that someone gets a hot meal out of that or something because it was cold and it’s raining now,” Fajardo said. “(I’m) just thankful for the position I’m in being a starting quarterback in this league, being able to play football for money.

“There’s a lot of people who are hurting out there so my change in my cupholder and my sunglasses hopefully helped them get a hot meal on Thanksgiving.”

Fajardo said he was lucky that there wasn’t any damage to the truck.

There were more than 2,600 cases of theft under $5,000 from cars in Regina between January and August, according to the Regina Police Service.

The one thing Fajardo found amusing about the whole ordeal was one of the things taken was a Funko toy in his likeness.

“I was like, ‘Oh, they must’ve been a Fajardo fan,’ so that was pretty cool,” Fajardo said. “With that circumstance, I’m always going to try and look at the positives of it and hopefully I help someone out to get a meal or something like that.”

The Roughriders are to visit the B.C. Lions on Friday.
