According to the latest statistics from the Prince Albert Police Services, crimes related to violence, drugs and guns, remain a big problem in the city.

There were 66 reported assaults last month, compared to 59 for the same month in 2018. Year-to-date there have been 604.

Reported crimes related to drugs and weapons were also up. There were 16 reports last month related to drug possession and drug trafficking, for a total of 139 year-to-date. Weapons related reports saw the bigger spike, when comparing 21 last month to 11 for September, 2018. Year-to-date there has been a 55-per-cent increase in this category, compared to the same time last year.

The news wasn’t all bad last month. There were over 100 fewer arrests related to intoxication, and there was also a slight drop in the number of reported break-ins to outbuildings (sheds and garages). Unfortunately this was balanced out with a slight increase for reported break-ins at residential properties (27).
