An out-of-breath Cohen was impressed with the outstanding shape firefighters have to be in to get the job, as well as the fitness they must maintain.

“I always did appreciate what first responders did, but on a firefighter level, to go through all of that (the challenge) and to think, ‘We’re going off on a call, to help someone in need,’” Cohen told paNOW. “To have that on my mind while I did this challenge, I have to give props to the fire department not only here, but the departments everywhere.”

He was quick to dismiss any rumours he might be in for a change of career.

“I’m definitely not going to quit my radio job.”

Fire Inspector Quentin Rowland observed Cohen as he was participating on the ladder climb.

“I’m very impressed. He had a good pace going up and down, he seemed fairly confident, he climbed one way up and one way down, that’s good,” Rowland praised.

He also explained Fire Prevention Week is coming up Oct. 6 – 12.

“This year’s theme is ‘Practice and Plan your Escape Routes’ so we want to make sure that everyone knows two ways out of their house. Know how to get out of your windows. Know how to muster and call 9-1-1,” Rowland explained.

He ended off by inviting the public to their open house Sunday Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. There will be a BBQ, giveaways, snacks, safety exhibits and a number of activities for the kids.
