EDMONTON — An Edmonton police officer who was run down by a car before being stabbed in the street broke down in tears as he told a jury about the 2017 attack.

Const. Mike Chernyk described flying through the air and tucking his chin before landing on the pavement where he had been directing traffic outside an Edmonton Eskimos football game in 2017.

Chernyk says his head was burning and wet, and he realized someone was on top of him stabbing him with a knife.

Abdulahi Hasan Sharif, who is 32, has pleaded not guilty to 11 charges, including attempted murder and dangerous driving.
