New Retirement Facilities

New retirement homes will be ready by next summer

The Lake Estates Retirement community held a sod turning event today at the site that broke ground on Aug. 10 on Kerr Road.

According to a media release, they promise quality housing and stunning views at the community in Lake Estates. It also explains convenience is an important part of the community because it is close to shopping centres, Victoria Hospital, and restaurants.

Part owner Glenn Wozniak told paNOW there is a need for retirement living facilities.

“Right now, there is actually people on a waiting list, and we’ve had people sign up since we started building here,” Wozniak said. “We advertised three months ago, and we had a big response, so we thought it was the right thing to do.”

Not only will the retirement community benefit from the project but the media release stated it will employ close to 75 people during construction.

When construction is done there will be 10 four-plexes available, which is 40 two-bedroom units altogether. The owners hope to have five four-plexes done by next summer.

“They’re actually individual units so it would be like owning your own house except it’s in a four-plex,” Wozniak said. “Each unit is about 992 square feet with a single car attached garage and you have your own deck and your own space but the [buildings] are just attached.”

The Lake Estates Retirement Community clientele so far are selling their houses and want to simplify their lives by moving into a smaller home.

Once the construction is done, Wozniak said people who will move into the retirement community will sign a year lease and will pay $1,650 per month plus utilities.

“It’s good because you got the Rotary trail right behind, the lake view and it helps a lot because it’s a nice spot. It’s pretty quiet in here,” he said. “You actually have to drive to get here so it’s a little bit more private that way and hopefully it’ll be nice for everyone who moves in.”

The project will cost nearly $9 million to complete.
