Speeding Pays

Speeding through work zones remains an issue: SGI

Highway workers in the province are still dealing with people speeding through their workplaces.

Numbers released by SGI on Thursday showed that 138 tickets were issued across the province in July to drivers who didn’t slow to 60 kilometres per hour when passing highway workers, flag people or highway equipment with warning lights flashing.

In a media release, SGI pointed out that fines for speeding in work zones or while passing highway workers are higher than regular speeding tickets. A driver who is clocked at 40 km/h over the speed limit will be fined $1,008 and will receive four demerits.

Officers across the province weren’t focusing only on speeding through work zones.
