A Prince Albert trio of archers showed their skills in various disciplines during the Canadian National Archery Championships underway in the city.

All three are members of the Prince Albert Timberland Bowbenders and represented both the club and the city on the national stage in a variety of events and categories. Friday’s shoot was the 720 target competition, which featured more than 100 competitors throughout the day.

Former Team Canada archer Tristan Moran competed in the Senior Male Compound Category and told paNOW he was relatively happy with his results.

“It’s probably the most competitive category, it’s all guys who are 21 or older. I would say that it was kind of an average day for me,” Moran said.

“A perfect score is 720, my personal best is 708 and today I shot a 697, so that’s right about where I’ve been and I’m definitely not disappointed.”

Moran added that he also competed in the field and 3D competitions earlier in the championships, noting that although he doesn’t usually participate in 3D he took advantage of the opportunity while nationals were underway.

Representing the younger side of Prince Albert was Cohen Quick, who as well competed in all three events throughout nationals and took part in the Pre-cub Men’s Compound competition on Friday morning.

“It was good, I didn’t have the best start, but it turned out OK for me,” Quick said.

“I competed in all three events. I got a gold in 3D and a silver in field so I’m proud of that.”

Hannah Siwak also represented Prince Albert, competing in the Junior Female Compound category on Friday morning.

She told paNOW she had hoped to do better but had beaten her own personal best.

“My old personal best was a 524, but today I shot a 580, so I’m definitely happy with that,” Siwak said.

“I also competed in all three events; I didn’t place for any medals, but I did a lot better than I thought I was going to do so I’m still happy with it. I’ve met some great people the last few days and just want to thank everyone for organizing everything so well.”

The 720 competition continues Friday and Saturday, and the Canadian Open portion of the competition wraps up the event on Sunday at Red Wing school.
