Miracle Treat Day

Go ahead, treat yourself

People across the country are encouraged to treat themselves to a Dairy Queen Blizzard today as part of an annual fundraiser by the ice cream giant.

Proceeds from every Blizzard sold on Miracle Treat Day in Saskatchewan goes to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, one of 12 Children’s Miracle Network member hospitals in Canada.

Prince Albert Dairy Queen owner Trent Kachur said it’s a huge fundraiser for a good cause.

“Who doesn’t want to help kids. Our hearts go out to sick children and if we help a child out by someone coming in and buying a treat for themselves, it’s a positive thing,” said Kachur.

Last year the local Dairy Queen sold over 1500 Blizzards on Miracle Treat Day which amounted to just under $5,500 in donations. Kachur is hoping to surpass $6,000 in donations this year.

“I’m kind of old school and like the Skor and Oreo Blizzards, but we have a new Drumstick Aero Caramel flavour out and everyone says it’s the bomb, so people should come out and try it tonight,” he said.

The Children’s Miracle Network raises funds and awareness for 170 children’s hospitals across Canada and the United States. More than 10 million sick and injured kids visit a member hospital every year.

Miracle Treat Day will continue at Prince Albert’s location until closing at 11 p.m. tonight.
