Field competition underway at 2019 National Archery Championships

World class archery continues in Prince Albert today, as the field portion of the 2019 Canadian National Archery Championships gets underway.

More than 100 archers will participate in the competition throughout the day, with both compound and recurve shooters.

“We have around 130 archers competing in the field portion of the competition throughout the day today,” Stacey Moran, co chair of the 2019 Canadian Nationals, told paNOW. “The course is great, and the weather has been perfect so we really can’t ask for any more than that. After today we move over to Red Wing school for our final few days of competition.”

The best of the archery world from around Canada are in Prince Albert for this week’s competition, including Canadian Paralympic archer Kevin Evans.

Evans has competed three times at the Summer Paralympics, four times at the World Para Archery Championships, four times at the Continental Championships, and twice at the Para Continental Championships.

“I don’t get to shoot field very often. Usually I only get a chance to do it when I come to Nationals. Most of what we shoot is 3D or target,” Evans said.

“Field is definitely one of my favourites. It’s nice to just walk around through the bush, in a sense it’s sort of like being out hunting.”

Evans added he commends the P.A. Timberland Bowbenders for their work to host the championships and added that he would like to thank those who volunteered their time to make the event go so well.
