Downtown hotel still unsold

The defunct Quality Inn in downtown Prince Albert remains unsold although the agent responsible for selling it says they’re happy with the level of interest from potential buyers.

The hotel closed its doors mid-June and is being offered as either another hotel or as a care facility or apartment units. The current owner said the hotel business was not economically viable in terms of driving traffic to the location, but said another option for a buyer could be to invest funds into upgrades and infrastructure. The YWCA dismissed rumours that it was set to buy the building.

“We’ve had people who have viewed the property but we don’t have any offers in front of us at present,” sales associate with ICR Commercial Real Estate, Kelly Macsymic told paNOW Thursday.

She said the ideal buyer would be someone who could make best use of the site.

“Be it another hotel operator, or a care home or apartment building, [the buyer] will be someone who can see the value that’s already there,” she said.

Macsymic said the $2 million price tag represented good value because when factoring in the extensive furnishings and equipment still in place it would cost “ten times that” to replace.

She added there was currently no intention to separate any of the land off as the parking lot was an amenity to the building that helped make the property an attractive proposition.
