Saskatchewan Indigenous Youth Selected for International Internship

Two Indigenous youth, Gavin Blondeau (21years old) from Saskatoon and Prestin Fleming (27years old) from Stanley Mission, have been chosen from a national competition to participate in a four-month overseas internship program.

More information about the program can be found at https://www.acic-caci.org/acic-internships. They are among 20 Indigenous youth from across Canada who have been selected for this opportunity to work and live overseas with a non-profit organization.

This includes organizations in Costa Rica, Kenya, Guyana, Myanmar, and Nepal.

The program is a partnership between the Atlantic Council for International Cooperation, the Northern Council for Global Cooperation, the Confederation of Mainland Mi’kmaq, the Native Council of PEI and GPI Atlantic.

Blondeau, a member of the Métis community, will be working with the Rift Valley Resource Centreand Run for Lifein Kenya.He will be assisting with programs related to clean water and environmental conservation, as well as community sustainability.

Fleming, part of the Oglala Sioux, will travel to Guyana to work with the Volunteer Youth Corps Inc, working on various projects to help improve quality of life for children and youth.

The interns will meet in Ottawa for pre-departure training in August, before departing for their internships.
