AMBER ALERT AVERTED

Amber Alert in Meadow Lake avoided after RCMP locate suspect, girl

May 5, 2019 | 6:42 PM

A suspect who took a three-year-old girl from a home in Meadow Lake was found by police just as the RCMP were about to issue an Amber Alert.

Sunday afternoon at 12:40 p.m., Meadow Lake RCMP received a complaint of a serious assault that occurred at a home in the city.

The victim, a woman, was able to get to a neighbour’s home and ask for help.

Police said the suspect left the victim’s home and went to another one in the city where he took the three-year-old girl.

While efforts were underway to issue the alert, officers located the suspect vehicle in a rural area eight kilometres south of Meadow Lake.

They arrested the suspect, a 36-year-old man, without incident and reunited the young girl with her family.

She was unharmed but the adult victim remains in hospital with unknown injuries.

RCMP said the investigation into both the assault and the potential Amber Alert are ongoing. No other details have been released.
