St. Louis Grand Ole Opry returns

May 3, 2019 | 5:00 PM

Country music fans will be treated to a special evening Saturday, as the third annual St. Louis Grand Ole Opry show returns to the St. Louis Community Hall.

The event, hosted by the Prince Albert chapter of the Saskatchewan Country Music Association (SCMA), will feature a variety of acts over the evening. A full bar and beef on a bun will be made available for those in attendance.

Prince Albert SCMA President Rod Gjerde said the evening will feature fun for the whole family.

“We have 13 acts or performers throughout the night. There is a fantastic band that will be playing as well,” Gjerde said. “People can really expect to be entertained, it’s going to be a great night with a lot of great performances.”

Gjerde also noted the importance of shows such as this, saying it’s crucial for communities to support live music events.

“If people don’t support live music then it won’t be around much longer and that would be really sad,” Gjerde said. “We’re just so thankful for people that do support our music, and our association.”

Gjerde will also be performing during the show, and noted that he is both excited and nervous.

“I’m always a little nervous because I’m a little bit of a perfectionist and I want it to go over really well, but I know that most of our performers know their stuff so I’m really not worried,” he said.

Also performing in the show is Prince Albert SCMA Secretary Gayle Breiter who shared her excitement before the show.

“I look for songs that are classic country, so we’re doing some songs that are by Sweethearts of the Rodeo which are classics,” Breiter said. “It’s exciting. It’s almost like a high, people enjoy the songs, and we all get to be a part of this big group, it’s just a lot of fun being together like a team.”

Doors for the show open at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with the concert beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase for $20.
