Local hotel approved for new waterslide

A long-standing local hotel is getting a major upgrade.

Renovations to the Prince Albert Inn are continuing, and the hotel is now getting a waterslide. Prince Albert City Council approved a development permit to build the waterslide at its regular meeting earlier this week.

The hotel’s owner said a 225-foot waterslide will soon be in the works.

“We decided to go big, and to give you an idea of what that is, it’ll be about an 11-second ride,” Rob Gauthier said. “It doesn’t sound like a long time, but that is a long time for a slide.”

Gauthier said there is a need for another waterslide in Prince Albert and the new addition works well with other renovations at the hotel.

“We have been really making some big changes at the Prince Albert Inn. We’ve done room renovations, we’ve worked on our lobby, and this is the final puzzle in a renovation that will exceed $2 million,” Gauthier said. “It’s just part of a large plan and a focus to move the property forward, and we’re very excited about it.”

Gauthier said a stair tower will be added to the pool area to accommodate the new slide and lighting effects will be added as well. He said the hope is to cater to more large sports teams, school groups and tourists, and provide local-area residents with more options for family events or just a quick escape from the long winters.

Gauthier said he’s hoping to have the new waterslide open by late September or early October.

The Prince Albert Inn currently has 111 rooms.
