KidSport scissor lift fundraiser aiming high

May 2, 2019 | 11:15 AM

Organizers with the local KidSport organization are spending the day outside as part of an annual fundraiser.

KidSport provides funding to disadvantaged kids and families so they can participate in various activities. Dwight Bergstrom with KidSport said the group is hoping to raise $4,000 by 6 p.m. Thursday.

If they reach their target, Bergstrom will spend Thursday night outside on the scissor lift.

“The need in Prince Albert here, the number of financially disadvantaged kids that would qualify for our funding, the most recent censuses say there’s about 4,300 kids here,” Bergstrom told paNOW. “The need is great.”

This is the third year the group has hosted the scissor lift fundraiser. Volunteers with KidSport were bundled up outside Dr. Java’s Coffee House Thursday collecting donations and spreading awareness about the program.

On average, Bergstrom said each child approved for funding receives about $240.

“We sponsored about 340 kids last year and then we just ran out of money,” he added.

May is KidSport Month in Saskatchewan. Bergstrom said the group is also planning a fun and fitness challenge May 10 and a steak fundraiser May 22.
