Two local women will be inducted into the Prince Albert Women’s Hall of Fame next month for their contributions to the wider community.

Dr. Shelley Storey and Irma Brunsdon will be recognized at a ceremony in early March. Storey, a longtime educator who acts as a representative with the Community Mobilization program in the city, has helped on a number of local initiatives. These include the Hunters with Heart program in support of the food bank, the local gang strategy partnership, alcohol and drugs education and awareness programming and a school program aimed at boosting student attendance rates.

Storey said the well-being of children and youth is very close to her heart. She had no idea she was nominated for the award, and said she is overwhelmed and humbled by the recognition.

Irma Brunsdon will be recognized at a ceremony next month.

“One of my core values is that it’s up to all of us to give back to our community,” Storey said. “Everyone needs to contribute to make our society better and this is just recognition that some of the things that I’ve been able to do in my life have contributed to that and I’m really pleased about that.”

Brunsdon, age 87, will be recognized in the lifetime achievement category for her work as a volunteer with numerous organizations and local initiatives. Brunsdon is also a musician and a member of the local choir, the Watsonaires, and along with her husband, Don, were named Mr. and Mrs. Winter Festival in 1998.

Brunsdon has served on the board of Lake Country Co-op and the Cooperative Health Centre, is involved in her church and spends time performing at local events and at local retirement homes. Brunsdon was instrumental in fundraising to cover the cost of a baby grand piano at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre as well.

The 2019 Women’s Hall of Fame ceremony will be held March 10. The event is held each year in early March to coincide with International Women’s Day, which is March 8.
