District of Lakeland exploring post-disaster recovery plan

Feb 12, 2019 | 12:16 PM

District of Lakeland council members are looking at developing a recovery plan for the area.

Administrator Tammy Knuttila said the need is there.

“I think it’s just like Fort Mac where you have to see how quickly something like that can change your life. You don’t think of things like what are you going to do with 500 fridges full of spoiled food,” she said.

The current challenge is finding someone to teach the course. Knuttila said there are no instructors available in the province. She added the best option is to bring instructors over from British Columbia.

“Now council has asked me to investigate how much will we need to charge [people who take the course], and how much interest would there be,” she said.

Knuttila said she received interest from both the cities of Prince Albert and Melfort, as well as the provincial government. She plans to present a report to council at their next meeting March 11.
