Mintos penalties catch up to them in 3rd; Saleski shines in return

Jan 5, 2019 | 2:41 PM

The Prince Albert Mintos saw a tight-checking game get away from them Saturday at the Art Hauser Centre, as they cut rust to the sin bin.

The Mintos gave up four goals, three of them on the power play, in the third period to the Moose Jaw Generals, leading to a 5-2 defeat. That snapped a three-game winning streak the Mintos had heading into the holiday break.

Steven Kesslering had a pair of goals for the Generals in the third period, one even strength and one on the power play. Cody Davis and Jeron Kletzel also struck on the power play in the final frame for the Gens.

The one big bright spot to the game from a Minto perspective was the return of Cohner Saleski to the lineup. Before Saturday’s game, Saleski hadn’t suited up for the team since Nov. 18.

It took Saleski just 1:34 into the game to score a goal, his ninth of the season, and put the Mintos ahead 1-0.

Despite missing about a month and a half of playing time, Saleski is still fourth in Mintos’ scoring with eight goals and 25 points in 19 games. Saleski is a Prince Albert Raiders’ first rounder from the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft. He has one assist in three call-up games with the Raiders this year.

The Mintos will get back at it on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre, hosting the Battlefords Stars (9-15-2).
