Sixth-place Montreal Impact making do with slumping strikers
MONTREAL — Goals have been scarce, but the Montreal Impact are prepared to play out the season with a threesome of strikers who have scored only five goals between them this season.
Coach Remi Garde said Thursday he doesn’t only look at goals scored to determine whether forwards Matteo Mancosu, Anthony Jackson-Hamel and Quincy Amarikwa are contributing to the team.
“We have to avoid simplistic judgements by only looking at that position in terms of statistics or goals scored because that’s not all that counts,” said Garde. “It’s not always the strikers who score the goals.
“I like to put together 11 players who can win a match.”
