Tempers flare as the Montreal Impact prepare to host Houston Dynamo
MONTREAL — Some heated exchanges between players at training this week could be exactly what the Montreal Impact need to turn their season around.
Tempers flared during an intense practice session Tuesday as the exasperated Impact — mired in a four-game losing skid — prepared to host the Houston Dynamo at Saputo Stadium on Saturday.
At the heart of the altercation were Ignacio Piatti, Raheem Edwards and Chris Duvall. The players snapped at each other and raised their voices as frustration with poor results seeped out.
“There was an incident (this week) in training and it seems negative but really it’s positive,” defender Daniel Lovitz said Thursday. “The moment you have players start taking ownership of what’s going on, trying to figure out a new way to move forward, that’s productive. The energy is going in a good direction. It’s never what you want to be doing, to have a conflict with somebody on the team, but it’s like a family, you have to do it.
