After long process, sentencing date set in kidnapping, assault case

More than five months after pleading guilty to sexual assault and kidnapping, the man responsible for triggering last summer’s Amber Alert will finally learn his sentence.
Jarrod John Charles is expected to be sentenced June 21 at Prince Albert Provincial Court. The date was set Friday morning during a brief hearing at the same courthouse.
The case itself dates back to July 4, 2017 when an eight-year-old girl, who was playing at a school playground, went missing. She was found five hours later, after walking onto an acreage outside the city.
In addition to the more serious charges, Charles also faces a breach of probation charge to which he has not yet entered a plea. Charles received a three-and-a-half month sentence and three years of probation in December, 2016, for a sexual assault charge dating back to June of that year. As part of his probation conditions, Charles was not allowed to be alone with children under 16. That charge will be addressed at his next court date.
