Computer shop receiving private medical documents from SHA

A North Battleford business owner is fed up with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) as he continues getting patient records faxed to his machine.

The fax number for Kelly’s Computer Works shares nine out of 10 digits with he fax number for a doctor’s office located in the same city.

Despite repeated conversations with the SHA, Darryl Arnold said Monday he continues to receive patient readouts at the store.

“I’ve offered to sell them my fax number, because I really don’t want to deal with this,” he said.

Another round of documents showed up in his machine Monday, this time a five-page report from Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon.

Arnold said he never looks at the information, and just wants the problem to be over.

The situation has continued for several years, he noted.

The SHA told 650 CKOM they’ve asked their staff to double-check the number they are dialling for faxes. They added there would be a follow-up on the situation with the organization’s privacy commission.
