RCMP launch internal investigation after death near P.A.
The RCMP have launched an internal review after the death of a 59-year-old man who walked away from a care home on Boxing Day. According to the Saskatchewan RCMP, their initial response to the incident “may not have been sufficient.”
On Dec. 26, the 59-year-old Indigenous male, whose name has not been released by police, walked away from a care home roughly 10 km outside the city. The following morning, he was found deceased on a nearby grid road. RCMP said foul play is not suspected, but an internal review has been launched to scrutinize the police response.
“An initial RCMP review of this matter determined that our police response may not have been sufficient,” the RCMP said in an emailed statement.
“In addition, as per RCMP policy around ‘serious incidents’ involving members, and in the interest of accountability, the Saskatchewan RCMP has requested an independent, external investigation into the actions of our members.”
