Wheelchair basketball club starts GoFundMe in wake of theft
A Saskatoon kids’ sports team is scrambling to raise funds after a disappointing theft.
The NRG Wheelchair Basketball Club, which includes kids between 6 and 16, had a trailer containing all its equipment stolen over the weekend of July 28-30, including 34 specialized wheelchairs valued at around $4,000 each.
Speaking to 650 CKOM on Tuesday, Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sport Association CEO Andrea Muir estimated the total loss at around $250,000.
As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, a page on the GoFundMe crowdfunding platform had raised about $425 of a $150,000 goal.
