Spa ups the ante in Prince Albert

When you open the doors to the newly renovated North Country Massage and Medi Spa, you’re also opening the doors to an upscale, luxury experience unlike any other in the city.

Cream coloured marble tiles on the floor with dark rustic post-and-beam accents, all lead to an inviting lounge with leather chairs where friendly staff greets clients from behind a hand-crafted wooden counter.

“We wanted people to feel like they were walking into a spa in Whistler or Banff.  We wanted to up the ante,” said co-owner Bernadette Lavoie.

With a 15-year clientele base in tow, Lavoie made the jump from the spa’s long-time location in a mini-mall on 2nd Avenue West to a much more private facility located within a semi-residential neighbourhood at 683 7th Street East.

“It is a much more inviting environment.  It is homey and there is lots of parking,” she said.

“Our service menu has increased significantly in the last year and with that so has our clientele,” co-owner Lindsey Rask added.  “We simply outgrew the other location… with a demand for more staff and limited space we knew it was time to expand.”

An inside look: pedicure stations

Lavoie worked in the spa industry internationally for years.  Rask is a Registered Nurse and esthetician.  The two combined their areas of expertise to offer laser and skin treatments, Botox and fillers, cosmetic tattooing, therapeutic and spa treatments, lash and brows, waxing, sugaring and more. With dedicated MD Dr. Chris de Villiers and his trained assistant Brigitt also on board, North Country provides Prince Albert with a level of professionalism and safety that many travel out of town for.

“It is all encompassing.  I don’t believe there is another medical spa facility where you can get a pedicure, Botox and laser hair removal all in once place,” Rask said.

The pedicure lounge is also licensed allowing clients to enjoy a glass of champagne while receiving a treatment.  Rask said that would be an especially attractive option for groups looking to host bridal parties, splurge groups, and private parties.

A variety of products

While the spa has a big city feel, the environment is welcoming and both Lavoie and Rask pride themselves on offering quality services to clients from all backgrounds.

“We have clients who are farmers.  We have clients who are bankers or students.  Our vision overall is to bring a better quality of life for those suffering with chronic pain …or to help raise an individuals self- esteem by helping them with areas in their appearance that might be bothering them,” said Lavoie.

The duo also endeavours to keep their business as local as possible, utilizing multiple Prince Albert businesses throughout the process. Much of the renovation work to their new building was done by their partners Steve Mitchell of Steveco Construction Ltd and Sean McAuley of Mighty Fine Brush Strokes. They give incentives to their employees for continuing education and offer the spa walls as pop-up galleries to local artists.

The North Country Massage and Medi Spa offers a multitude of services, both therapeutic and beauty focussed, in an environment you simply don’t want to leave.  A grand opening of the new location will be held in September.
