Raiders look for rebound Friday against the Oil Kings

Nov 27, 2015 | 5:39 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders head coach Marc Habscheid said his team was outworked in their 4-2 defeat to the injury ravaged Calgary Hitmen on Tuesday.

He doesn’t want to see that again.

On Friday, the Raiders will play the Edmonton Oil Kings to wrap up their four-game home stand and will play their next five games on the road.

The Raiders defeated the Oil Kings 4-0 in their first of four meeting on Oct. 28, and the Oil Kings are currently not in a playoff spot. But the last thing the Raiders can do is take them lightly, especially after Tuesday’s game and the team’s slow starts in recent games—according to Habscheid.

Habscheid was also quick to note that the Oil Kings still have eight players on their current roster from the 2013-2014 Oil Kings outfit that won the Memorial Cup: Ben Carroll, Aaron Irving, Dysin Mayo, Luke Bertolucci, Brandon Baddock, Tyler Robertson, Lane Bauer and Brent Pollock.

“They still have a lot of players in there that have some pretty nice jewellery,” said Habscheid.
“They’ve got some good experience and a winning tradition. They’ll be a good test for us.”

They’ve also changed up their roster as well, acquiring Payton Lee from the Vancouver Giants and Jesse Roach in two separate deals from the Vancouver Giants Nov. 5 and Nov. 18.

They’ve made two acquisitions there so we’ll see how they’ve gelled together as a team,” said Raiders goaltender Rylan Parenteau. “We’re more so focused on ourselves to get back doing all the right things, but we’re also going to prepare for their game plan as well.”

With Raiders goaltender Ian Scott’s departure to the 2015 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge from Oct. 30 – Nov. 7 and Scott missing the last two games to injury, Parenteau’s work load has vastly increased. Parenteau has played in nine of the last 11 games for the Raiders.

“I’ve made it a point to make sure I’m taking care of my body, staying even keel, taking it game by game and keeping my game under control,” said Parenteau. “I’m really looking forward to the weekend.”

Scott was scheduled to start the Nov. 21 game against the Regina Pats but was injured while warming up for the game. Habscheid said Scott has practiced with the team this week but will need to talk with the team’s medical staff and Scott himself before making a decision on his immediate availability.

After Friday’s game, the Raiders will head to Swift Current on Saturday to play the Broncos. They’ll then travel to Alberta to take on the Calgary Hitmen on Dec. 3, the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Dec. 4, the Red Deer Rebels on Dec. 6 and the Oil Kings on Dec. 7.
