Carlton volleyball teams ready for Provincials

Nov 20, 2015 | 5:53 AM

The Carlton Crusader Senior A boys and girls volleyball teams are ready for provincials.

The Carlton Crusader girls have a lot of momentum after winning gold at regional’s, by sweeping St. Mary in the final game.

Coach Tara Peet thinks that for her girls to carry their momentum into provincials each girl needs to bring their strengths to the court.

“Each one of the girls brings something special to the court, and they are a family on and off the court so keeping that strength as we move forward and building on that and improving together is really going to help us out,” said Peet.

The boy’s team finished second in regional’s losing to St. Mary’s in straight sets.

Coach Curtis Bender has advice for his team that is made up of 10 rookies and two returning players.

“Enjoy it, it’s a lot of fun you know. So soak in the moment a lot of people would like to be in our shoes because a lot of people don’t get the opportunity to play in provincials since only 10 teams make it,” Said Bender

Senior girls Aadyn Oleksyn said she noticed a big change in her mindset going into provincials this year compared to when she was in grade 10.

“The biggest difference is I feel a lot more confident on the court. I feel a lot more competitive and am definitely less afraid to make mistakes throughout the game,” Oleksyn said.

Thomas McIntosh who’s one of the returning players from the boys’ provincial title last year has advice for his team heading into provincials.

“My advice would be to enjoy the experience. It’s not something that happens all the time and it’s definitely something to savour. Just go out, enjoy yourselves and let’s play our game,” McIntosh said.

Both of the provincial games start on Nov. 20. The guys play in Swift Current, while the girls play in Martensville.
