Precautionary water advisory issued for parts of rural P.A.

Oct 16, 2015 | 2:33 PM

The Prince Albert Rural Water Utility has issued a precautionary drinking water advisory for residents living South of Lindsay Road to the South Saskatchewan River, and East of Highway 11 to the Fenton Ferry Road.

The advisory went into effect at 9 a.m. Friday morning due to water main repair and a system depressurization of the Prince Albert Rural Water Utility’s distribution system, downstream of the Royal Booster Station. Because of this, safety of this drinking water cannot be guaranteed.

According to a release from the Water Security Agency, residents are ordered to boil all drinking water for at least one minute, at a rolling boil, before drinking.

Boiled water should also be used for brushing teeth or soaking false teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, as an ingredient in food which will not be heated or for ice cubes.

The water should not be used for washing dishes unless the water has been boiled or the dishes are sanitized.  Washed dishes and utensils can be soaked in a bleach water solution, with about two tablespoons of bleach per gallon or 10 millilitres per liter of water, for at least two minutes after being washed to kill any bacteria which may be present.

Parents are asked to sponge bathe young children and infants while the advisory is on. Adults, teens and older children may shower using tap water but should avoid swallowing the water.

Under most circumstances, there is no need to boil water used for other household purposes. Laundry may be washed in tap water, either by hand or by machine.

This advisory will not be lifted until the water supply is determined to be completely safe.
